two types of voices command our attention today. negative ones fill our minds with doubt, bitterness, and fear. positive ones purvey hope and strength. which ones will we choose to heed? we have a choice, we know. "we take every thought captive so that it is obedient to Christ" (2 cor 10:5)do we let anyone who knocks on our door enter our house? don't let every thought that surfaces dwell in our minds. take it captive... make it obey Jesus. if it refuses, don't think it.
negative thoughts never strengthens us.

contentment.
from the book, "written in stone"the truth is that if God wanted us to have more right now, we would have it. if we needed different gifts to enable us to glorify Him, He would provide them. if we were ready for the job or the ministry we want, He would put us into it. instead of always saying, "if only this" and "if only that" God calls us to glorify Him to the fullest right now, whatever situation we are in.
the word for this is contentment. it is the remedy for covetous desire. contentment means wanting what God wants for us rather than what we want for us. the secret to enjoying this kind of contentment is to be so satisfied with God that we are able to accept whatever he has or has not provided. therefore, the way to get rid of any covetous desire is to be completely satisfied with God and what He provides.
God says, "Trust me. I will provide everything you truly need." faith is always the answer to our discontent. it is not poverty or wealth that leads us to contentment and trust in the Lord, but the confidence that if God provided so richly for our salvation by choosing, redeeming, calling, adopting, and justifying us, and by sending His Spirit to cause us to grow up into Christ's likeness, then surely we can count on Him for the less essential matters of daily existence.
God is all we need. He is enough for us. Really, He is.

get down to the root.
lunch with amk yesterday. she said that in life, maybe we have many layers of hurt and pain that has piled up. we probably have asked God to help us forgive, but maybe that only dealt with one of the many many layers. we need to open all the layers on top and get down to the bottom. to know the root. God wants to bring healing and restoration deep down in our souls.
when the root is dealt with, then we won't be doing things by our own efforts, or to keep trying and trying but failing time and time again. but we will be doing things out of a sincere love for God. and we would be able to experience true joy in loving people.

carrying a thick Bible.
i was encouraged.by your one-page-long prayer to God.
that you came to church on sunday.
that you tried your very best
to sit through the sermon which you couldn't understand.
that you took time to read the Bible and write down what you learnt.
that though your Bible is big and thick,
you brought it to school in your school bag,
so that when we met, you could understand the simpler version.
by your desire to do what is right.
(in the little everyday things in life)
and showing your desire through practical actions.
by knowing that God is to be respected.
(in the way we dress to church)
that you did the discovery journey 1.
that you helped your mum wash, hang and dry the clothes.
that you are asking God to help you be less hot-tempered.
that you shared about how things are better with you and your friend.
that you gave time to study matthew together today.
that you prayed for me.
that the both of you still read matthew even though your daddy doesn't allow us to meet up that frequently anymore.

romans 8:26-27the Spirit helps me in my weakness.
i do not know what to pray for.
but the Spirit himself intercedes for me with groanings too deep for words.
what the Spirit prays for me will surely be answered because the Spirit prays in accordance to the will of God.
what a comforting promise to cling on to.
God understands.
God cares.
God loves.
God accepts.
God forgives.
God gives strength.
God gives grace.
God gives hope.
God gives courage.
all that God is and all that God gives will be sufficient to help us face the day.
