the tongue

had a sudden inspiration to write about something-THE TONGUE.

our tongue is one of the smallest parts of our body. so small, yet so powerful, and so evil. many times we do not think before we speak. we say whatever we like, whenever we like it. sometimes we say things that hurt people without even realising it. words hurt. most of the time it hurts much more than physical pain.

what is truly scary is that once you've said something, you can never take it back. you could apologise, you might have said it at the spur of the moment, maybe you didn't really mean it. but the hurt you cause to a friend can never be fully removed.

Question: what should come out of our mouths?
Answer: do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (ephesians 4:29)

Question: so what if i speak what i like?
Answer: he who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin. (proverbs 13:3)

Question: everybody uses swear words, it isn't that bad anymore right?
Answer: "everything is permissible"-but not everything is beneficial. "everything is permissible"-but not everything is constructive. (1 corinthians 10:23)

God gave us a mouth, with a purpose - to build each other up, to encourage those around us, to show our appreciation to people, to benefit those around us. swearing and using vulgar language does neither of these.

for those of you who like using foul language, it speaks very very badly and horribly of yourself. shows others what kind of a person you are. uncultured and rude. don't destroy the purpose that God gave us when he created us with a mouth.

i urge all of us (myself included) to THINK BEFORE WE SPEAK.

help me to trust.
